Christ Church was a corrugated iron building of 1885 with a north west tower. Considered unsafe, it became disused in the 1960s and was subsequently demolished. Services resumed at the thatched church of St Peter.

The seats were said to have been designed by Ewan Christian and came from a church in Surrey. Pevsner called the colour scheme 'battleship grey with pitch-pine'.*

St Peter's Church, the only thatched church in Lincolnshire was built in the early seventeenth century.

Markby, St Peter contains thirteenth century stone from the nearby Augustinian Priory, including the dogtooth on the chancel arch.

Inside are box pews, a two-decker pulpit and a three-sided communion rail. It is said that the roof was originally tiled.

St Peter's church, though modest in size and architectural interest, has always attracted visitors on account of its thatched roof.

Church viewed from the northeast. Kelly's Directory 1885 states that :-

"The church of St. Peter is an ancient brick and stone building, consisting of chancel and nave, covered with a thatched roof, and a small turret containing 1 bell.

The register dates from the year 1558.

The living is a vicarage, consolidated with the rectory of Hannah-cum-Hagnaby, joint net yearly value, from 119 acres of glebe £280 with residence, in the gift of Charles Langton Massingberd esq. J.P. of Gunby Hall, and the Rev. E. H. Edman M.A. rector of Thornton le-Moor, near Caistor, Lincolnshire, alternately, and held since 1881 by the Rev. Arthur Smyth M.A., LL.B. of Trinity College, Dublin".
