The broad tower of St Oswald's is 14th century.

Both nave and chancel were rebuilt in the nineteenth century, but older features have been re-used, such as the chancel arch which is 13th century.

The church contains an unusual number of monuments, dating from c1200 to the 17th century.

The nave of St Oswald's was rebuilt in the 1820s.

The simple straight-headed windows in Perpendicular style are from this period of reconstruction.

The chancel of St Oswald's was rebuilt in 1862 by R J Withers, though the hood mould above the east window probably dates from the fourteenth century.

This view from the north-west of St Oswald's shows the broad and solid tower.

The bell openings are from the Decorated period.  There is a label-stop by the west window formed as the head of a monster - Norman in date.

White's Directory 1872 states "The Church (St. Oswald), an ancient structure, consisting of nave, chancel and tower containing two bells, was repaired about the year 1836, at the cost of £500, and contains several ancient monuments of the knightly families of Fulnetby and Harrington.

The chancel was restored in 1862.

The rectory, valued in K.B. at £8. 4s.10d., and now at £430, is in the patronage of the trustees of the late R. Burdon, Esq., and incumbency of the Rev. Charles Albert Lloyd, M.A., who has a good rectory house, built about 1824"

The entry in Kelly's Directory 1913 reads :-

"The church of St. Oswald is a building of stone in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, vestry and an embattled western tower containing 2 bells :

a number of brasses are mounted and hung in the nave : there are several rich mural tablets on the walls to county families :

the nave was rebuilt some few years previous to 1826, and in 1862 the chancel was rebuilt, a vestry added, and a new pulpit placed in the nave, under the direction of Mr. R. J. Withers, architect, of London.

the church retains its old font, and a fine recumbent female effigy of stone, of the 14th century, now placed beneath a recessed arch in the north wall of the chancel:

in 1898 the tower of the church was restored, under the direction of Mr. J. E. Dixon-Spain A.R.I.B.A.:

there are 120 sittings"

This blocked window in Perpendicular style is at the west end of the south wall of the chancel.

Presumably it was retained in position by Withers at the time of the 1862 restoration.
