The first face-to-face meeting since the lock-down of the Covid epidemic (which began in March 2020) was held in the Old School Rooms at Nettleham on Sunday 23 January 2022.

John Manterfield chaired a meeting at which the speakers were Stewart Squires, Richard Croft and Adam Daubney.

The annual day conference arranged by the Local History Committee was held at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa on Saturday 26 March. The theme was 'Lincolnshire Houses and Gardens'.

Speakers, in the photograph: Back Row - Andrew Walker, Paul Smith, Charles Pinchbeck, Mark Acton (chairman); Front Row: Patty Harris, Lesley Clarke. Emma Brealey, owner of the hotel, also spoke about the history of the Petwood - the building and its garden.

A large collection of unbound and unpublished material - town, village and church guides; manuscripts; maps, photographs and postcards - collected and filed informally by SLHA over several years, was donated to the Historic Environment Record in Lincoln in spring 2022.

Lee Belt, an SLHA volunteer, seen here in the foreground, has managed the collection while it has been housed at Jews' Court. Richard Watts, senior officer at the HER, also in the photograph, received the collection.

On Tuesday 26 April an enthusiastic group of SLHA members spent the morning at the churches in Legbourne and Little Cawthorpe under the leadership of Jean Howard.

Here is Jean describing the origins and dedication of the stained glass in the east window at All Saints Church, Legbourne.

The two churches visited on the morning's tour are about one mile apart and are linked by an attractive lane and streamside footpath. 

The route passes Legbourne water and windmill, once the centre of an important village industry.

The morning's visit ended at St Helen's Church, Little Cawthorpe, where Jean gave information about both interior and exterior of Withers' building of 1860.

SLHA was honoured to receive the Lincoln Civic Award for 2022. It was presented to Ian George, SLHA Chairman, by the Mayor, Cllr Jackie Kirk, at Lincoln's Guildhall on 3 May.

The Lincoln Civic Award, presented to SLHA in 2022, is made in silver and was crafted in the style of an eight-sided obelisk by the late Lincoln silversmith Derek Birch.

Members of the Industrial Archaeology team at SLHA have spent several days examining the surviving structures of the East Lincolnshire Railway line (between Firsby and Louth) which closed in October 1970.

On-line meetings by Zoom continued throughout 2022, interspersed with face to face meetings at St Hugh's Hall, Lincoln.

On 1 June Kathy-Jayne Lintott, Senior Project Officer at Heritage Lincolnshire, gave an illustrated on-line talk about the organisation's work in new plans for Lincoln's historic Greyfriars building.

The annual Brackenbury Lecture was given by Dr Jim Cheshire on behalf of the Tennyson Society. The title of his talk was 'Tennyson's Cornwall and Idylls of the King: Poetic Research and the Diffusion of Celtic Culture'.

A large group of members visited the Museum of Lincolnshire Life on 12 July for a guided tour of the museum's stores led by Sara Basquill.

On a very hot Saturday in August a hardy group of SLHA members were the guests of Horncastle History and Heritage Society. A picnic was held in the Tribute Garden at the rear of the Sir Joseph Banks Centre in the town.

Ian Marshman, Chairman of HHHS, led a walk round the centre of Horncastle, here, on the south side of the former National School, the Stukeley map of the town was examined.

The walk took in St Mary's churchyard and the early dispensary on the south side.

Towards the end of the walk was a section of the once navigable River Bain below the town's watermill close to the north-east corner of the Market Place.

In October a small group from the Industrial Archaeology Team examined items in Gunby Hall's estate yard and gave advice on the role and significance of a Robey oil engine dating from the inter-war period.

The annual day conference arranged by the Industrial Archaeology team attracted a large audience to Grantham's Guildhall for talks on Lincolnshire railway themes. The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway was the topic presented by Peter Balderston.
