These two pubs on the A15 have both closed - the Lord Nelson in 2013 & the Kings Head in 2007. A Co-op store now sits on the site of the former.

A cruciform building with a Perpendicular central tower. The north nave arcade is late Early English or early Decorated. The south arcade is fully Decorated as is the long chancel.
The scraped interior and masses of Victorian glass mean, in the words of Alec Clifton-Taylor in his book English Parish Churches as Works of Art (Batsford 1986) that 'lights have to be kept on even on a sunny summer morning'.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1930 states :-
"The church of St. John the Baptist is a cruciform building of stone, in the Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, lady chapel, south transept, western porch and an embattled central tower with pinnacles, containing a clock and 6 bells:
the columns of the nave arcade are Early English:
the chancel is Decorated, retaining three sedilia and piscina:
in the north transept is a credence with mutilated canopy, and in the south transept an aumbry:
the west porch, with the window above it, are good examples of Perpendicular work:
the east window is a memorial to the Arden family:
there is an octagonal font in a good state of preservation, the panels being finely carved with emblems of the Crucifixion:
the church has thirty-two windows, all stained, and was restored in 1860 at a cost of £2,000, chiefly defrayed by W. Parker esq. of Hanthorpe House:
in 1887 the chancel floor was raised and the sanctuary repaired:
in 1904 new choir stalls of carved oak were provided:
the Chapel of the Resurrection was restored in 1910 in memory of Lt.-Col. William Parker D.L., J.P. of Hanthorpe House:
on the north wall is a bronze tablet, bearing the names of the men of Morton and Hanthorpe who fell in the Great War:

"The Church (St. John the Baptist) is a large ancient fabric in the decorated and perpendicular styles, with a tower and five bells.
The vicarage, valued in K.B. at £9. 1s. 10d., and now at £280, with that of Hacconby annexed to it, is in the patronage of the Bishop of Lincoln, and incumbency of the Rev. Thos. Colbeck Holdsworth"

Morton's war memorial is in the churchyard close to the church porch. It was unveiled by Col F J Parker on 10 October 1920.
20 servicemen from Morton and Hanthorpe died in the First World War.

Morton and Hanthorpe was formerly known as Morton by Bourne. It lies 2 miles north of Bourne. Morton sits on the fen side of the A15 whilst Hanthorpe is on the upland side.
George Hussey Packe, MP for South Lincolnshire from 1859 to 1868 and Chairman of the Great Northern Railway, was born in Hanthorpe Hall in 1796.
