A fine example of Lincolnshire vernacular architecture dating from the mid seventeenth century, altered in the nineteenth.

Southrey's Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built in 1838.

The Lincoln to Boston line was opened in 1848 as part of the Great Northern Railway's Lincolnshire Loop Line.

Southrey station closed with the line in 1970 but goods trains to and from Horncastle continued to pass through until 1971.

This was one of the stations alongside the River Witham with a ferry service linking the isolated farms on Dunston Fen on the west bank with the station.

Now part of the long distance cycling and walking trail, the "Water Rail Way", the platforms, concrete name boards and station master's house still survive.

"The station was opened on 17 October 1848 as part of the new 58 miles (93 km) Lincolnshire Loop Line, from Peterborough to Lincoln via Spalding and Boston.

This line was authorised as part of the London and York Railway bill, which received Royal assent on 26 June 1846.

The Great Northern Railway began construction of the loop line in 1847.

The station closed on 5 October 1970"

This unusual little wooden church was built in the 1890s by the local joiner.

Today, the wood is protected externally by plastic cladding.

"The church. of St. John the Divine, erected in 1898, is a wooden structure with tiled roof and a turret containing one bell; the church will seat 85 persons and there is a churchyard of half an acre in extent"

Appeal by Charles E. Laing, Vicar of Bardney, October 1897 :- 

"SOUTHREY MISSION CHURCH

"The Vicar of Bardney and the Southrey Mission Church Building Committee beg to lay before you the following facts and to beg your help and sympathy.

Southrey is a hamlet of Bardney, with about 200 inhabitants, 3 miles from their parish Church and Churchyard, there are 241 smaller parishes in this Diocese that have a Parish Church and an endowment. 

After a long series of Teas, Sewing Meetings and Sales of Work, the people have themselves raised over £100 for a Church. 

Mr. J. E. Welby has just kindly consented to surrender half an acre of land in the very best position for a Church and Burial Ground.

It is now proposed to build a Wooden Temporary Church on a Concrete foundation, at a cost of about £130. 

BUT the Fees on Surrender and for the Conveyance to the Diocesan Trustees, Enfranchisement, Redemption of Tithe Charge, Land Tax and Consecration, will amount to upwards of £40!

We are therefore obliged to appeal to the Diocese and our friends to help us over this last difficulty, whilst we are relaxing no effort on our own part to complete our scheme .... 

The Rev. Canon Harvey has presented an Altar, Reredos, Red Frontal and Altar Rails, from Navenby Church.

The old Church Font found in the Vicarage Garden is being reworked up and will be placed in the proposed building.

Mr. Tinley and Mr. Turner have kindly promised to do all the leading free"

"On Wednesday January 22nd, 1919, a meeting was held in the Southrey Schoolroom to discuss the possibilities of a War Memorial for the village.

At the meeting it was decided that the Memorial should "take the form" of a Hall that could be used by those living not only in the village but also in "outlying places".

"The Village Hall, Southrey's War Memorial, opened officially on 25th November 1920"
