Wootton lies just to the west of the A1077 & some 5 miles south-east of Barton-upon-Humber. Its population in 2011 was 475.

Wootton is known locally for the large pond at its eastern end. There is no longer a shop or post office in the village.

The tower of St Andrew's church is ironstone and the nave and chancel, restored or rebuilt in 1851, of limestone and chalk.

Wootton was recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Udetune'. Its inhabitants then were 8 villagers, 7 smallholders & 71 freemen in more than 40 households.
