The Wesleyan Methodists built this chapel on Sutton Road in 1857. A Sunday school was added in matching style a few years later (to the left in the photo).

In the recent past the building has suffered structural problems and it is no longer in use. The local Methodist community now hold services in the village hall.

The school was built as a National School in 1840 and enlarged in 1874. It was known as Huttoft CE School by 1914.

The school was transferred to Lindsey County Council as Huttoft Council School c.1922, and became Huttoft County Primary School in 1947.

More recently it became a Grant Maintained School, known as Huttoft Primary (GM) School, and has been known by its present name since September 1999.

The subject of Sir John Betjeman's poem "A Lincolnshire Church", St Margaret's, Huttoft, is a greenstone building with thirteenth-century tower and chancel arch, a Decorated arcade and Perpendicular aisles.

The chancel is eighteenth-century though its windows are Victorian.

Betjeman was surprised to find the church open to visitors - no such luck today.

A similar view (taken on a wet autumn day) emphasises the patchy nature of the church's construction. As often eleswhere, the friable greenstone has had to be replaced by limestone, sandstone or brick.

Kelly's Directory 1930 reports :-

"The church of St. Margaret is an ancient building of stone, in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, large south porch and a lofty embattled western tower of Early English date.

There are several sepulchral slabs with inscriptions and a font with elaborately carved figures representing the Holy Trinity, the Virgin and Child, the Apostles, St. Paul, St. Mary Magdalene and others:

there are two memorial windows in the south aisle to the Rev. George Bryan M.A. vicar 1833-82, and his wife. In the church is an ancient carved oak chest, of the Decorated period:

the church, with the exception of the tower and south side, was restored in 1869, in 1882, when a new roof was put on by W. Murgatroyd esq. and in 1897:

the exterior of the church was further restored in 1910:

a new oak screen, pulpit and choir stalls were provided and new east and chancel windows were inserted and the bells recast in 1915:

there are 250 sittings:

in 1919 the side chapel was screened off and furnished as a memorial to the men of the parish who fell in the Great War, 1914-18:

the churchyard was enlarged in 1895 by voluntary subscriptions, and on the 10th July, 1921, a further addition to it was consecrated by the Bishop of Lincoln; the ancient churchyard cross was restored in 1895, and after being blown down in a gale during 1903, was again restored in 1910.

White's Directory 1872 has :-

"The Church (St. Margaret), is seated on an eminence, and consists of a nave and side aisles in the Decorated style, a chancel, and a tower of the Early English period, containing three bells, and commanding from its summit extensive views of the country and the ocean.

The church contains an organ, and a very curious, but much mutilated font, having at the four angles the Evangelistic symbols, on its shaft the figures of St. Paul, a mitred abbess, and bishops, and on the bowl those of the apostles, the mother and child, and a representation of the crucifixion, all elaborately carved.

The building was restored in 1869, at an expense of £200, contributed chiefly by the parishioners.

It containts many floor monuments, the oldest of which bears the date 1400, and another is inscribed James and Matilda Goth, 1430"
